The Pauses In Between is a collaborative video work of four multidisciplinary artists thinking together about what we could learn from plants over lockdown. The piece looks both below and above ground for radical models of care and relation.

Translating the lessons from plants into various media, The Pauses In Between presents a mix of animated illustration, 3D digital models, film, photography, sound and spoken word. With the scale of time and growth cycles adhered to by plants in mind, The Pauses In Between is structured to have no clear beginning nor end. Like the multilayered and interconnecting growth cycles of plants in a forest, the video can be stepped into at any moment with meaning emerging in a subjective and organic way. In conversation with thinkers such as Robin Wall Kimmerer, Anna Tsing, Donna Haraway and Starhawk, the film quotes from their various proposals for multispecies ways of being that illustrate radical and empathetic potential forms of society.
