Some of my strongest and most visceral memories are shrouded in smoke. I have come to see it as an embodiment of difficult transformation, of forces that simultaneously create and destroy – loss intimately tied to possibility. In these spaces of memory and decay, amongst the ruins and through the smoke, we find new seedlings breaking through the scorched earth.
